About Us
The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Our primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek. We provide full-time coverage with both part-time and volunteer staff. We protect a district of over 600 residential homes, 5 shopping centers, 3 schools, 13 apartment complexes, 11 industrial facilities, and a population of over 20,000. We provide free training to members ranging from entry level to advanced for all positions in the department. Once basic training is completed, all members are required to work a specific number of shifts in the station.
  
Job Position Description
The position of Firefighting Explorer is an entry level position and applies to high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 who are new to the Department. Explorers will receive training related to a career in the fire service. Explorers will be responsible for participating in all activities involving the Explorer Post.
 
Responsibilities
  • Maintaining training requirements and participate in all station training
    • Explorer Meetings are held on Tuesday Evening and Saturday Morning 
    • Explorers are expected to attend 50% of the scheduled training meetings
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 14 years of age and have entered high school
  • Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average

The goals of the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department are to:

Respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
Provide non-emergency assistance to the community.
Cultivate and maintain a well-trained staff of personnel.
Work toward maintaining and improving our Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating to benefit the residential and business customers in our district.
