About Us
The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Our primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek. We provide full-time coverage with both part-time and volunteer staff. We protect a district of over 600 residential homes, 5 shopping centers, 3 schools, 13 apartment complexes, 11 industrial facilities, and a population of over 20,000. We provide free training to members ranging from entry level to advanced for all positions in the department. Once basic training is completed, all members are required to work a specific number of shifts in the station.
Job Position Description
The position of Volunteer Vehicle Maintenance Technician is an entry level position for those wanting to provide vehicle maintenance support to the fire department. The personnel would be responsible for weekly maintenance and inspection of fire apparatus and staff vehicles.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and/or repair fire equipment
- Check and maintain fluid levels
- Inspect and adjust
- Brakes
- Tires
- Lights
- Batteries
- Generators
- Inspect and replace hydraulic systems
- Diagnose and/or repair
- Fuel systems
- Cooling systems
- Pumping systems
- Assist with diagnostics and repair
- Pick up and deliver equipment and vehicles to outside repair shops
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Two-year trade school or equivalent
- Successful background check
- Experience with diagnostic equipment/software
- Experience with digital volt meter
- South Carolina Class E Driver's License or CDL (Preferred)
- Bonus Qualifications: ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certificate (T2-T8)
- Bonus Qualifications: EVT Certifications (F1)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
